The Anambra State Government has officially prohibited secondary school students from using mobile phones within school premises, aiming to curb distractions and promote academic excellence.

Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, announced this directive during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka. She emphasized that the increasing use of mobile phones during school hours has become a significant distraction to students' studies. To ensure students concentrate on their academic work without interference, principals and teachers are now authorized to confiscate any phones brought to school by students.

This initiative aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration's commitment to investing in education and instilling discipline among students. By eliminating mobile phone distractions, the government aims to create a more focused learning environment conducive to academic success.

The policy has garnered support from various quarters. Former Senator Shehu Sani endorsed the decision, describing it as a positive step toward improving educational standards.

In addition to addressing mobile phone usage, Professor Ikediugwu highlighted the importance of preserving Igbo culture. She called for educating the younger generation on Igbo values and norms to maintain the rich heritage of the Igbo people. The cultural event showcased various aspects of Igbo traditions, including music, dance, and cuisine, aiming to instill pride and awareness among students.

This policy reflects a broader effort to enhance educational outcomes and cultural awareness in Anambra State, ensuring that students remain disciplined and focused on their studies.
