Goodluck Jonathan

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been named the winner of the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize, a prestigious international award that recognizes individuals and organizations making significant contributions to peace, human development, and conflict resolution.

The Sunhak Peace Prize committee acknowledged Jonathan’s dedication to democracy, peacebuilding, and good governance, particularly his role in fostering peaceful transitions of power in Africa. His concession in Nigeria’s historic 2015 presidential election was a turning point for democracy in the region, reinforcing the principle that “nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.”

Beyond Nigeria, Jonathan has actively mediated in political crises across Africa, including in Mali, The Gambia, and South Sudan. His commitment to diplomacy and his work with the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation have further solidified his reputation as a statesman focused on peaceful governance and development.

The Sunhak Peace Prize, established in 2015, is awarded to individuals and institutions championing world peace and sustainable human development. Jonathan now joins the ranks of previous laureates who have made lasting impacts on global peace efforts.

The award ceremony is expected to take place later this year, where Jonathan will officially receive the prize.
