The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, who was abducted in Owerri on Saturday evening.

The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, who was abducted in Owerri on Saturday evening.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, clarified that Mr. Igboayaka was not arrested but remains missing.

“The Imo Police Command has commenced an investigation to establish the whereabouts of Comrade Igboayaka,” Okoye stated, urging anyone with useful information to come forward.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the abduction took place around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. A group of about seven armed men, all dressed in black, reportedly arrived at the scene in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV before forcefully taking Igboayaka away.

Since the incident, attempts by OYC members, relatives, and friends to reach him have been unsuccessful, with his phone lines remaining switched off.

Reacting to the development, Igbo National Council (INC) President, Chilos Godsent, called on the police to intensify efforts to locate those behind the abduction.

“His followers, family, and friends are in distress. They deserve to know his whereabouts as soon as possible,” Godsent said.

Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to secure Igboayaka’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
