On the evening of Monday, April 21, 2025, a group of terrorists disguised in military uniforms launched a deadly assault on Ilesha Baruba, a community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The attackers, arriving on motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, killed six residents shortly after the Isha’i evening prayer. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants' military-style attire caused initial confusion, leading some to believe they were genuine security personnel until gunfire erupted.

The victims, comprising both Baruba and Fulani individuals, were reportedly shot at close range, with graphic footage circulating online depicting the aftermath. The attack has instilled fear among residents, prompting some to flee their homes amid concerns of escalating violence. Community members have attributed the assault to the Mahmuda terror group, which has been linked to previous incidents of violence and kidnappings in the region.

Despite these allegations, the Kwara State Police Command has denied the presence of such a group in the area, leading to criticism from locals who feel abandoned by security forces. The traditional leader of Ilesha Baruba, the Turaki, condemned the killings, describing the attack as a direct threat to the community's peace and sovereignty.
