A recent video depicting a bishop's ordination ceremony within a Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church in Southwest Nigeria has sparked widespread controversy and condemnation. The footage shows a senior church figure engaging in a tongue-to-tongue anointing ritual with the bishop-elect, a practice that has raised eyebrows and elicited strong reactions from various quarters.

The Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria has swiftly distanced itself from the individuals involved in the video, asserting that they are neither members nor representatives of the official C&S organization. In an official statement, the church described the ceremony as "horrific" and "despicable before God and man," emphasizing that such practices are not in line with their doctrines or values. The church further clarified that it strictly abhors idolatrous practices and that its official rituals involve anointing with olive oil and baptism through water immersion, not the practices depicted in the video.

The church's investigation identified the main figure in the video as Alfred Oluwasegun Okikiola Ogunnusi, who refers to himself as "His Eminence Baba Aladura LAHOJAH." The ordination ceremony reportedly took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, while the individual being anointed, known as Benjamin (also called Ajigbo), is said to operate a makeshift 'church' in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State. The C&S Unification Church emphasized that these individuals are not recognized members and condemned their actions as misrepresentations of the church's teachings.

The video has circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting discussions and debates about the authenticity and appropriateness of the ritual. Observers and commentators have expressed shock and disapproval, with many questioning the legitimacy of the practices shown. The C&S Unification Church has urged the public to disregard the actions of those involved in the video, reaffirming its commitment to orthodox Christian practices and distancing itself from any idolatrous or unorthodox ceremonies.
